Wheeler Compton Wright founded Wright Roofing and Sheet Metal in 1946, focusing on ductwork, gutters and roofing. By the early 1950s, the company shifted its focus to coal-fired furnaces and ductwork, phasing out roofing and gutters. In 1961, Wheeler’s son, Wheeler Compton Wright Jr. (“Doonie”), joined after earning an engineering degree from Auburn University. With the rise of air conditioning in the South, the business adapted to install air conditioners alongside existing furnace systems. Shortly after, father and son became partners and renamed the company W.C. Wright & Son, Inc.
Brenda Wright began working as the company’s accountant in 1975, staying until 2011. In 2013, Kenny Burke joined to help manage operations and implement a computer system, purchasing the company from Brenda in 2017. Kenny’s son, Ryan Burke, graduated from Auburn University in 2008 with a degree in building science and spent a decade in commercial and industrial construction management. In 2019, Ryan joined W.C. Wright & Son, working alongside his father to continue the family business legacy.
